RIFF 2012

The Rincón International Film Festival is proud to announce the celebration of 5 years of entertaining films!

More than a tropical little escape, RIFF brings its audience together, not in stuffy theaters, but at beachfront resort screenings. You mingle with locals, filmmakers, and other film enthusiasts, while feeling the cool ocean breeze and hearing the waves gently sing in the background.

RIFF screens entertaining films from around the world, with themed dinner events from the finest chefs in the area, as well as special Puerto Rican film events. See our new blog of LATEST NEWS.

RIFF creates events themed around comedy, fright/horror, documentaries, shorts, narratives, international films and special themed evenings based on the films submitted. RIFF is proud to showcase entertaining films that make audiences laugh, cry, scream or learn something along the way. All films are screened in English, or with English subtitles. RIFF also has special Spanish Language and Puerto Rican film categories for films in Spanish. RIFF, with it's growing recognition from several stateside Festival Partners, is proud to be increasing the exposure of Puerto Rican films and filmmakers, with Puerto Rican films screened at RIFF being scheduled in special RIFF screening blocks at these prestigious state-side festivals.

Venues

RIFF creates a spectacular screening environment by showcasing films at outdoor venues at beachfront resorts. Every evening, a dinner/food event is created by some of the finest chefs in the area. See entertaining films while enjoying the great outdoors.

Daytime screenings are hosted at the Beachfront Villa Cofresi, where you can see films, or enjoy the beach, bar, restaurant and pool.

Rincón is a 2 hour drive from San Juan and has become a Carribbean hideaway vacation destination, known for surfing, beaches, and a Laissez-faire attitude. Filmmakers from around the world travel into Rincón every year for the festival. Filmmakers from Japan, China, Spain, Canada, Europe and US states from California to New York, have attended and shown their work, as well as up and coming directors and filmmakers from Puerto Rico. A filmmaker from Germany actually proposed and married in Rincón before leaving the festival in 2009.

Submissions

Submissions are open to All Films including: Feature Length (more than 50 minutes) Fiction Film and Documentaries. Short Films (under 50 minutes), music videos, International films, student films, surf films, and animation films from around the world.

We are in special need of comedy shorts, horror/fright night shorts, and surfing films. All films are screened in English or with English subtitles. All Spanish Language films submitted should have English subtitles by screening date.

Submission DVDs will not be returned. Final Production on films must be completed after

January 1, 2010 to qualify. Earlier productions will not be considered.

RIFF prides itself on treating our filmmakers like royalty when they arrive in Puerto Rico. We feel that rewarding filmmakers with cash awards and prizes is of great importance. In 2012, we will be offering more than $5,000 in cash awards and prizes.

Mission / 2012

The mission of the Rincón International Film Festival is to support and promote culture and the arts in Puerto Rico through the medium of film. The festival seeks to inspire student, future and current filmmakers in the art of filmmaking, and to enhance the movie viewing experience in Puerto Rico through creative, unique and entertaining events. With special award categories for Puerto Rican filmmakers and Spanish Language films as well as International and American Films. Rincón Puerto Rico is also a Surfer's paradise, so the festival also screens great surfing films.
History / RIFF"As a documentary filmmaker myself, I traveled around the world with my film attending film festivals and thus inspired me to ask my aunt and uncle, owners of the Lazy Parrot, and residents of Rincon, whether this would be something that the community of Rincon and Puerto Rico would enjoy. We launched our first festival in 2008, bringing a unique perspective of screening films beachfront and outdoors at beautiful resorts, and not in stuffy theaters. This also offered a unique opportunity of connecting Puerto Rican films and filmmakers with Hollywood professionals- making an exceptional "International" event. Rincon is a wonderful tourist destination with a vast spectrum of people and was an easy choice for setting up this entertaining festival." - Doug Lantz - Festival Director

Festival Director: Doug LantzLos Angeles/Atlanta - Doug Lantz has worked in television broadcasting and film for the past 15 years. He has worked with many prestigious journalists including Diane Sawyer, Peter Jennings, Barbara Walters, Charlie Gibson and countless celebrities. His producing credits have included the following networks and shows: A&E, Discovery, Biography, Good Morning America, Nightline, 20/20, Primetime, and World News Tonight. He has also worked in the film industry employed by Disney, Miramax, and Showtime. In his varied work, he has covered the Academy Awards, the Michael Jackson trial, Hurricane recovery in New Orleans and the Ronald Reagan funeral, among other major events. His first documentary film and directorial debut, From The 50 Yard Line, has garnered 18 Film Festival Awards and has screened in more than 100 cities around the world, and translated into 3 languages. His upcoming film, Stands Alone Warrior, will be released this summer and features Matt Light of the New England Patriots. A follow up music documentary film entitled, 'Rhythm Generation' is currently in production. 'Rhythm Generation' will highlight the sport of Indoor Percussion. Doug also works doing unique corporate commercials for several clients including: Ceja Vineyards & Morgan Linens. We feel honored to have his Hollywood connections while serving as Founder and Director of the Rincon International Film Festival. His Hollywood connections have helped in building a unique team of industry professionals who select and judge the films. Assistant Director / Director of Puerto Rican Affairs: Julio CabreraWriter, Producer, Film Director. Wrote in 2008 the script for shortfilm Naco as a student of the Graduate School of Scripwriting at Sagrado Corazon University. His script won 1rst place at a local film festival and the Puerto Rico Film Commission sponsored the production of the shortfilm. He directed and produced the shortfilm. Naco. The shortfilm World Premiere screening was at the 2nd Annual Rincon International Film Festival in 2009. He won the Best Puerto Rico Shortfilm Award that year. Naco also won the Best Script Award and Audience Choice Award at Cinefiesta. Since then, he traveled to various film festivals where Naco has screened in many cities in the United States. In 2010 Julio wrote, produced and directed his 2nd Shortfilm called MINE. The Puerto Rico Film Commission also sponsored the production of the shortfilm. In 2011, Julio is currently working on the production of his 3rd Shortfilm called Dead Bug. His work with RIFF has quadrupled the submissions from Puerto Rican filmmakers. We are honored and pleased to have him on our prestigious Rincon film team.

The films chosen primarily have to meet one main goal: They must be entertaining! At RIFF, we focus on films that make people laugh, cry, or learn something through watching them. Many film festivals present art films which leave audience members a little sleepy in their seats. At RIFF, we carefully select films that we feel the audience will be enthused about seeing. We also have themed evenings at the festival, including comedy night, a fright night of scary short films, a documentary night, Puerto Rican film night and a closing awards night. There are also daytime screenings at Villa Cofresi, where you can enjoy the beach, the sun, the pool, the bar and restaurant, while you partake in films. A $10 Day pass will allow you to see as many films as you choose, all day, at Villa Cofresi.Our selection and judging committee is made up of Film and TV industry professionals who have or still work for some major companies, including Miramax, Sony, ABC, Disney, and A&E.

PUERTO RICO El Festival de Cine de Rincón se efectuará del 10 de abril al 15 2012.
